2017
This year is coming to a close and although it’s been my biggest year of growth because of new trials and challenges I have faced, the only thing I continue to feel is gratitude for 2017. This year I am closer to the person I want to be than ever before. Authentic, flawed, honest, letting go of being a perfectionist and learning to truly love unconditionally. I have become closer because this year I have had to humble myself more times than I can count.
2017 began where obviously 2016 left off and it was ROUGH and painful and any other negative word that you would like to add, {please insert here.} I could easily go into details of all the trials I faced in 2016 but some of them are still a challenge to this day. Regardless of all the challenges I promised myself that I would do whatever it took to make 2017 look different for me and that’s exactly what I did.
I found the most challenging but rewarding job at Steps Recovery Center day treatment. I was blessed with such a freaking good clinical team that allowed me to question myself as a clinician but also as a person. I can’t count how many times I came home thinking to myself, “Who the hell am I?” Learning to question yourself often is a beautiful way to continue growth. I continue to work there and have been so blessed and I have grown in the field I love.
Parker and I have worked hard on our marriage this year. It’s been a VERY trying two and half years. We have worked harder than we ever have before and sometimes it’s discouraging or a complete let down and other times we feel good with where we are. Regardless of the feelings in the moment I know we could both agree it’s been one hell of a ride to learn to connect, be honest and allow one another to be completely vulnerable with one another and try to be a safe place. Learning about your partner’s shortcomings is a process especially learning how to be their safe place to confide in you without feeling judged. Learning to juggle all of that is tricky business. At the end of the day we can say we try our best.
Jagger started preschool in August at the Kids Village in Orem and it has been worth every penny. He absolutely LOVES his teacher and learning new things. It has been so fun to watch him grow and learn. He is as wild as ever but so much fun. Jagger is all boy and loves superheroes, painting, coloring and running around. It’s bittersweet to watch him grow up but I am loving the person he is.
The cool thing about 2017 is being able to go on some fun vacations as a family! We went to Disneyland twice, Catalina Island and camping. We had so much fun and gained lifetime memories. Every year it becomes more and more fun to take Jagger to Disneyland because he makes it so magical.
We had a lot of fun adventures this year that have become some of my favorite memories! We went to the zoo, Comic-Con, Cornbellys, Vegas, Lagoon, hiking and camping.
We have had a wonderful year with the good and the bad but we are blessed beyond measure and I know we are grateful for the friends and family that filled our year with love.
Xoxo
